Lee Roy Selmon's story combines football scholarships for his parents and a commitment to the community. Selmon is the youngest of children from Lucious Selmon and Jessie Selmon, who raised him on the family farm near Eufala. In football, he played with three of his brothers for Oklahoma. The three brothers all made All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the top lineman from the United States. During his three-year tenure as Oklahoma's starting quarterback The Sooners recorded a 32-1-1 record and captured two national titles. In 1975, he received his third scholarship, and was recognized as the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon obtained his master's degree in educational studies. Lee Roy's fourth time of service consisted of ten hours a week as a volunteer in the college. Following graduation Lee Roy moved to Tampa which is where he played for 9 years with Tampa's Buccaneers. Three times he was named an All-Pro. He began his business career. In 1988, he was an Account Relations Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked in these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as being among 10 of the most notable young males. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in the height department and weighed 256 lbs in his college days. He played for the team of 1975. In 1993 he joined at the University of South Florida as the associate director of athletics. He has been inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave the Distinguished American Award, to Mr. Lucious Selmon and his wife. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma gave it to them.
